(These photos were taken in the fall, Oct. 2015 when we visited here)
This is a wonderful unique place to visit, there are a lot of nature trails to hike and beauty to see.
We took the train ride around Stone Mountain ....it was a short trip and gave us a chance to sit, relax and take in scenery....
We also road this skyride to the top of Stone Mountain to take in the views from up there....it was way up there....
It was fall so everything was festive with pumpkins and fall harvest decorations.....
We had lunch here inside the park....
We couldn't have asked for more beautiful weather for a hike...
Next, we rode over to see the Grist Mill....
I told you before I'm crazy about any kind of falling water.... there I am again thrilled over the little waterfall...reminding me of our Tennessee trips and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.....(as always, husband is laughing behind the camera!)
Next, we drove over to the antebellum plantation area of the park.... we took a self guided tour of the grounds and houses over there. I loved this place so rich in history....it was like stepping back in time....I think I'd have to say, it was my favorite thing about Stone Mountain...
The Dickey House Circa 1840...
Garden view from the top of the staircase landing area.....
This is the garden view from the covered back porch area....
The Cook House....
The Kingston House Circa 1845
I adore these robin's egg blue walls....
Lastly, we drove over to see the Quarry Exhibit.....
We enjoyed our fall get away together, despite the Atlanta traffic and the fact that we at some point (not on purpose) had our GPS set to avoid freeways and interstates to get to our destination, (yes really). We took many back road country roads and ended up eventually on the actual narrow streets of Atlanta Georgia taking the back roads into Stone Mountain, Ga., where we stayed. We are sometimes technically challenged to say the least lol! It seemed to take twice the time as it should have to get there, but what can I say, we made a memory together, and we laughed so much the night we finally got to the hotel after we re-couped and re-grouped. I'm sure we'll always think back and have a good belly laugh about it. We wish we would have gotten to see more fall leaves, there was a little bit, but not much at all. I will hold this trip in my heart forever and cherish the memories we made together here.
I hope you enjoyed coming along for the tour! Thanks for coming along with us!
